Microsoft escapes the more important DDoS attack in its history
Microsoft’s platform Azure recently endured a huge DDoS attack, probably one of the more important ever seen.
Microsoft recently foiled the biggest DDoS attack ever recorded of its services in terms of output. This attack occurred in august was targeted at an Azure customer, during more than 10 minutes. We estimate that there were more than 70.000 devices involved. This data is very important in case of a DDoS attack, because this manoeuvre consists in clogging up the network targeted with useless requests, so all associated services are unstable.
Most of the time, these attacks do not come from a unique source, especially with such a high level. They are leaded by a « botnet », an army of zombie devices, infected by pirates before the attack. The 70.000 devices infected were mostly based in Asia and USA, and targeted a European client.
Thankfully, Azure employees have succeed handling with this attack, without having their services damaged.
